How to Change the World Preset on a Minecraft Server

Want to reset your Minecraft world with a different terrain generation? Whether you're after amplified mountains, a flat creative build zone, or massive biomes, changing the world preset is easy on Beacon Hosting.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Stop Your Server

  • Go to your server dashboard.
  • Click on your Minecraft server.
  • Stop the server before making changes.

⚠️ Changing the world preset deletes your existing world unless you've made a backup.

2. Delete or Rename the Current World Folder

  • Navigate to your server’s file manager or connect via SFTP.
  • Locate your current world folder (usually named world, world_nether, etc.).
  • Either delete it or rename it if you plan to save a backup.

3. Edit the World Preset

  • In the control panel, locate the world generation settings (or server.properties if editing manually).

  • Change the level-type value to one of the following:

    • default — Standard Minecraft world.
    • flat — Superflat world (no caves, good for creative).
    • largebiomes — Larger biome regions.
    • amplified — Over-the-top terrain with huge mountains.
    • buffet or customized — Only for older versions / modded.
  • Optionally, change level-name if you want to generate a new folder name.

4. Start the Server

  • Save any changes you made.
  • Restart the server.
  • A fresh world will be generated using the selected preset.

Tips

  • Use the World Manager in Beacon Hosting’s panel if available — it simplifies world creation.
  • You can upload pre-generated or custom world files if you have specific terrain in mind.

🧠 Always back up your world before deleting or replacing it.
